Even though it was a slow start this year for the program, we are ready and in full force!

This Saturday will be interesting as the girls will be voting for their Crew Leader and Secretary!

Also February will be a fun month as we are getting ready for an adventure at New Jersey and a bowling trip!

Just know that from January to June it will be filled with fun and adventure!

Breakneck Ridge Hike

Hi everyone,

We were at Breakneck Ridge, NY this past Saturday. We had two girls who have never rocked climbed or hiked through the mountain attend the trip. They did an awesome job! Everyone was so helpful and positive to them. Everyone is very proud of them.

As some of you may know, we contacted you by email about what else you can earn for Merit Badges.

Here is a list of some of the easy ones:

So start working on them. By late June, we want to hand out every Merit Badge that you girls earn and be proud of doing all of them! Not only do you earn it but you also learn from each and every one of them!

Halloween Party!

Hello Girls,

Remember that on Oct.30 we will have a Halloween Party from 12-2PM. You don't have to come dressed up or in a costume, just bring your Halloween spirit!

Make sure to contact Diane to know what you can bring to the party. If you do not bring anything for the party, you cannot stay.

There will be games, face paint/makeup stuff, and food!

There will be goodie bags given out at the end of the party.

Harriman Trip

Hello girls

Don't forget these things:
- Meeting Time: Saturday 9AM @ church (We have things to get in order before we leave!)
- When packing, please, bring only ONE bag with all your stuff in it. It's only for 3 days 2 nights girls, not a week.
- Bring one extra small bag to take for the day hike we will be having (this can be your personal bag). It's to carry your lunch.
- Thick sweater, it's cold!
- 2 Bottles of water
- Don't forget to bring stuff to eat with! (plate, spoon, cup, etc)
- Stretchy sweatpants or Hiking pants for the day hike.
- Hiking Boots OR sneakers.

As you know next week will be Book Sale week! Girls are to ONLY come on TUES & THURS from 2PM - 7PM! Please bring lunch or lunch money on Tuesday.

There will also be a Bake Sale happening at the same time so make sure everything is organized.

Thursday will be the final day and there will be pizza given out for everyone!

This Saturday, June 5th, Venture Prep girls will be participating the Hike the Heights event in Washington Heights. Last year we participated and the girls had a blast! We got free T-Shirts, free snacks, free food, and free activities!

We will be there again this year and we can't wait.

10 Mile Hike

Hey girls,

This Saturday we will be hiking 10 Miles right by the West Side Highway. We will see how the city transforms as we walk from 181st Street to all the way downtown. It's going to be long and hard but you will love all the things we will see and how diverse the city is! One minute you see trees and people and the next you will see cars, boats and huge buildings!

Please meet at the church at 9AM!

Also, bring both permission slips: 10 Mile Hike & Breakneck Ridge.

New Pictures!

We finally added new pictures in our Picasa Album! Last week the girls went to Staten Island to volunteer with another 130 people on planting 2,000 trees at Wolfe's Pond. Two of our girls planted together about 75 trees in 3 hours! Great job girls!

We would like to thank MillionTrees NYC and the people who organized the event for giving us the opportunity to be part of this. The event was a success and we loved the freebies that were given out for being a volunteer.

Now we just have to wait for 10 or 20 years to pass and see how big the trees we planted grow.

Our girls are making NYC a better and healthier place!

On Friday, January 22, there will be a Indian Lore Merit Badge Meeting & after that the Sleepover begins. Those who are interested in the merit badge, come at 7:30 PM. Those who are not, can come to the Sleepover at 8:30 PM.

Sleepover Permission Slips are due next week! Also, next week, we will give you information on what exactly you need to complete in order to complete the badge.

Gettysburg Patches & Ice Skating

Last week was a busy week for VP girls. On Friday, they received their Gettysburg patches and a metal for completing the trip activity. Each girl got 5 patches that becomes into 1 and a medal.

Congratulations Girls!

The next day, Saturday, the girls went to Lasker Ice Rink for a couple of hours and had a blast! Seven girls went and ice skated, eat, and chatted until they had to return.

This Saturday, we will be celebrating Christmas and give presents to our secret santa! Pictures will be up next week!

Ice Skating at Lasker Rink!

Today we just sent permission slips to everyone so that we can go to the ice skating trip this Saturday!

Parents are welcomed to joined at this trip. Ice skating is optional. It is just a day to spend time with your daughter about something that both are interested in.

Please return the permission slips by Thursday at the church!

Fall Campout/Backpacking

The VP Girls had a fall campout/backpacking trip during Columbus Day Weekend. The young girls stayed at camp for the weekend while the older members went on a backpacking trip.

The young girls were brave to stay at camp under the cold, bitter weather. They found ways to entertain themselves by playing games, exploring the campsite, and learning to cook for themselves.

Spent the time talking and joking near the lake. They came to a realization of how much they appreciate their parents, warmth, light, home-cooked food, and a nice bed.

Meanwhile.......

The older members went on a 3 day backpacking trip for the first time.

Venture Prep is very proud of its girls!

These girls pushed and challenged themselves to their limit and realized they past it and now they have a higher bar to reach.

There were some struggles, some laughs, and some tears, but in the end they bonded more, found strength, and are now more confident than ever.

Bake Sale Success!

The VP girls did an AMAZING job at the Bake Sale! It was such a success that everything was sold in 2 hours! We made a good amount of money that could help these girls go on a skiing trip that is planned on January 2010!

The Bake Sale was a mixture of home baked goods and store bought. We had banana bread muffin, cake, cream cheese buns, cookies, and chocolate cupcakes.

If you missed it, you can come to our next Bake Sale on November & December!

VP Girls at River Cleanup!

The VP Girls went to volunteer today at the Riverside Cleanup. We were able to fill up 8 bags full of trash! About more than 50 beverage bottles, more than 80 pieces of foam, balls, pieces of wood, shoes, plastic bags, and other items.

The girls did a great job!

Next Week - River Cleanup!

Next Week the VP girls are going to do the Riverside Park's Coastal Cleanup. The cleanup will be located at 100th Street and Hudson River and will be from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM.

Information:
- Date: Saturday, Sept. 26
- Meeting Time: 9 AM in front of church
- Bring your own lunch & drinks (water!)
- Attire: Dress comfortably, must wear closed toe shoes, no jewelry, and hair back. Note that there will not be a location to store valuables.
- Supplies: Pencils, garbage bags, gloves, & Data cards (provided by Venture Prep)

Parents can join & volunteer too!

Bake Sale - pushed back to the following week Saturday, Oct. 3. Jakara & Christine are leading this event.

Breakneck Postponed

Breakneck Ridge hike will be postponed until further notice. We realized a lot of our member's family would like to enjoy some family time on Labor Day weekend.

Yoga Fun!

Today some of the VP girls came and had a yoga session with a great instructor named Ola. Ola has been doing yoga for years and she was nice enough to stop by and give us some lessons.

We had some funny and relaxing moments!
